  1. DO: STAY HYDRATED
    Your body is mostly water. Because of this, it needs proper replenishment in order to keep itself functioning at its highest potential. The amount of water you consume directly affects how well your bones are able to do their job.
  2. DON’T: STAY SEATED FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME
    One common reason for back pain is often correlated to bad posture from long periods of sitting. Sitting in a slouched and hunched over position puts a strain on your spine and your discs -- the fluid-filled cushions that protect the vertebrae and keep them from rubbing together. If you are one of the many Americans who work at a desk all day, set a reminder to get up and move at least every half hour.
  3. DO: STRENGTHEN YOUR CORE
    Weak abdominal muscles can cause low back pain and even encourage you to engage in a forward-leaning posture. This provides you with less stability while doing spinal motions such as bending over, lifting, or even standing back up. Regular abdominal exercises are incredibly important for strengthening core muscle groups and supporting your back.
  4. DON’T: SLEEP ON YOUR STOMACH
    While stomach sleeping is a preferred sleeping position for many, it is one position that puts the largest amount of pressure on your spine. Why? Because most of your weight is carried in the middle of your body. Placing stress on your spine while you sleep increases stress in other parts of your body, including your back and neck!
